Attempted abduction of teen

A man approached a 13-year-old girl walking at North Point Village Center on July 18 and engaged her in conversation.

The two entered a coffee shop and later walked a short distance together. The man asked for a kiss and tried to grab the girl. She ran away and called the police. She was not injured.

The suspect was described as white, about 50 years old, with gray hair and blue eyes. He was about 5 feet tall and weighed about 180 pounds. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, cargo pants and white tennis shoes.

Fire damages Herndon home

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to a Herndon house fire July 14 at about 8:10 a.m. The single-family home is at 1108 Jeff Ryan Drive.

Firefighters encountered fire and smoke coming from the first floor and attic of the two-story home. They brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

No one was home when the fire started and no one was injured. Two adults have been displaced. The fire was primarily contained in the kitchen area. The home had working smoke alarms.

Damage is estimated at $100,000. According to fire investigators, the accidental fire was caused by an electrical anomaly in the kitchen.

 

National Night Out

The Town of Herndon Police Department will celebrate National Night Out on the evening of Aug. 5, with 16 communities around town. The festivities will begin in the 1000 block of Elden Street at 3:30 p.m. and end in the 1400 block of Herndon Parkway at about 8 p.m.
