Legendary tennis coach to visit Reston:

Nick Bollettieri, legendary coach of nine No. 1 tennis players in the world, will be featured at the LPSM Tennis Clinics in Reston in August. Clinics will be held from Aug. 4 to 7 and Aug. 11 to 14 and will each cost $350 per four-day session and include a special session with Bollettieri on Aug. 8. Fairfax Stars finish stellar trip to Missouri:

The Fairfax Stars U-11 girls basketball team recently traveled to Brandon, Mo. to compete in the AAU National Championships, and they completed the tournament with a 5-3 record, defeating four seeded teams before the Stars were eliminated in the round of 12.

Due to their excellent play, the Fairfax Stars finished their season ranked ninth in the country. Team members included Sierra Jeter, Lindsey Oblitey, Maia Lee, Haley Oliver, Ashley Alexander, Ariana Freeman, Marta Sniezek, Alexia Johnson, Chloe Jackson, Britani Stowe and Caitlin Jensen.

Tryouts and announcements:

Fall 2008 registration for McLean Youth Soccer is open at www.mcleansoccer.org for all returning and new families. MYS offers various programs for children ages 4-18, and be sure to register no later than July 31 to take advantage of the discounted registration fees. The season will begin Sept. 8 and extend through mid-November. MYS also has spots available for its Premier Soccer Academy Summer Camp, which runs weekly through Aug. 15. The Fire and Ice 16-U tournament team will hold four tryouts for the 2008-09 tournament season. Tryouts will be held at Park View High School on Aug. 6 from 7-9 p.m., Aug. 9 from 10 a.m.-noon, Aug. 11 from 7-9 p.m. and Aug. 13 from 7-9 p.m. For questions, call Tony Sudley at 703-798-2003.

Herndon Optimist Youth football practice will begin Aug. 4, and cheerleading practice will start on Aug. 12 at the Herndon Middle School fields from 6-8 p.m. Ages 7-16 are eligible for football; 6-15 for cheerleading. Average Joe Tournaments will launch its 11-city national basketball tournament at Chantilly's Hoop Magic Sports Academy in October. In each city, 64 teams will contend for the $100,000 prize; the tournament MVP will win a new car. The Virginia Renegades (formerly Reston Renegades) will be competing in several fall tournaments and are looking for talented players to play competitive tournament baseball.
