Childcare center closing set
By James Cullum
A 29-year-old daycare facility on Ox Road in Fairfax will close Sept. 30, even after owner Salvation Army told parents and staff in a meeting that the issue would be discussed this week.
It was acknowledged at that meeting that staff and parents had deliberately been left in the dark because the Salvation Army for Fairfax County advisory board decided a negative decision would fuel unrest, board member Sandy Winans said last week.
Tuesday night's meeting "was poi. We tried to ask questions but were just told by the board that there was nothing more they could do and that they were closing," said James Chu, a parent whose two children are enrolled at the center.
For the past several years, the Salvation Army has kept the center afloat with donations running in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
