MCC has a new leader

The McLean Community Center has named Julie D. Rasmussen as the center’s new executive director. Rasmussen will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of the MCC as well as running large McLean events, such as McLean Day.

"She's got experience across the board with all the things the center does," MCC Governing Board Chair Sean Dunn said.

The board appointed Rasmussen at its June 25 meeting. Rasmussen is currently an employee of the City of Alexandria, where she is the chief of capital development and park operations for the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. She is responsible for the creation of and improvements to the city's facilities and parks, and the operation and management of parks, properties and related programs. In a previous position with Alexandria, she ran 26 recreation centers for the city, a slightly bigger job than overseeing the MCC.

Rasmussen holds a master’s of business administration from Averett University and a bachelor’s in communications and theater arts from Ripon College. She is scheduled to join MCC on Monday, Aug. 18.
