Camelot Knights take NVSL's Division 11 title:

The Camelot Knights, an Annandale-area team in the Northern Virginia Swimming League, captured a share of the league's championship, sharing it with the Holmes Run Hurricanes of Falls Church. Both teams concluded the season with 4-1 records.

This season's success follows Camelot's undefeated campaign in 2007, when the Knights captured the NVSL's Division 13 championship.

Leiva tapped to lead boys soccer program at Paul VI:

Former boys soccer coach at Woodson High School, Matt Leiva, has been hired to fill the same position at Paul VI High School in Fairfax.

“PVI has a talented pool of players who are dedicated to playing soccer,” Leiva said in a press release. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I know these young men will rise to the challenge and succeed.”

Leiva once played for and coached the goalkeepers with the Vermont Voltage of the USL's Premier Development League. He's been the head coach at Woodson for the past two seasons.

The SYA Xplosion, a group of 10-U, 12-U, 14-U, 16-U and 18-U fastpitch softball teams, will hold tryouts for the 2008-09 squads on Aug. 9-10 at Centreville High School. For more information and the complete schedule of tryouts, please visit www.xplosionfastpitch.org.

Two-time coach of the year Stu Vetter, who's currently coaching at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Md., will hold two basketball camps this summer at Hoop Magic in Chantilly. The first will start Monday, Aug. 4 and conclude Friday, Aug. 8, and the second will start Monday Aug. 11 and conclude Friday, Aug. 15. The Fauquier Mustangs U-11 travel baseball team is looking for players to round out its roster for the fall 2008 and spring 2009 seasons. The Mustangs participate in a local travel league and various regional tournaments. Players born on or after May 1, 1997, are eligible. There are no fees to join. Northern Virginia Senior Softball seeks men (50-plus) and women (40-plus) to play Fall Ball – two seven-inning slowpitch games every Tuesday and Thursday on various Fairfax County fields Sept. 2-Oct. 30. NVSS has 25 teams organized into three skill-level conferences. Players are assigned to a team by a skill assessment, not a tryout.
