PRS, Inc. Receives Nonprofit o

By PRS

PRS, Inc. was awarded the Nonprofit of the Year Award from the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, July 10th at an Awards Luncheon held at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse in Tysons Corner. This award is given to the nonprofit Chamber member that exemplifies exceptional commitment to the betterment of the Chamber and its goals while improving the quality of life for members in our community. In her acceptance speech, Wendy Gradison, PRS’ President and CEO, acknowledged the more than 50 other nonprofit chamber members and their significant contributions to community life in Northern Virginia.

PRS (formerly Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services), a community-based nonprofit organization serving persons with serious mental illness in the Northern Virginia community, was founded in 1963 during the nationwide movement to deinstitutionalize patients in mental hospitals. As thousands of former mental patients were released from hospitals, community organizations realized the vital need for community-based mental health services to help close the enormous gap between hospital and community life.

Since 1963, PRS, Inc. has grown to be a leader and innovator in the “recovery” model of rehabilitation, which tailors services to each individual’s unique needs and goals. Today, PRS serves over 700 persons yearly with a variety of rehabilitation services designed to facilitate clients’ recovery from mental illness and assist them in achieving satisfying and productive community lives. Based in Falls Church, VA, with additional centers in Reston and Mt. Vernon, and residential sites throughout Northern Virginia, PRS offers day programs, employment services, residential services and home-based support services.
